Rio Jones MBACP
I’m Rio, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist offering online therapy for adults and young adults across the UK.People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. You might be feeling anxious or overwhelmed, having difficulties in your relationships or family, questioning where life is heading, or carrying things from your past that you haven’t really had the chance to make sense of.I have particular experience working with young adults finding their way through adulthood, as well as men who may be carrying a lot without always having somewhere they feel comfortable talking about it.But you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what’s wrong or what you want from therapy. We can start with what’s going on for you. I’ll listen, ask questions and give you the space to talk openly about whatever feels important. Over time, we can begin to understand things a little more clearly, where certain feelings or patterns might come from, what’s affecting you now and what you might want to be different.

What I Can Support With
You might already know what you want support with, or you might just know that something doesn’t feel quite right. Some of the things we can explore together include:• Anxiety and stress
• Low mood and depression
• Trauma and difficult past experiences
• Bereavement and loss
• Self-esteem and confidence
• Relationship and family difficulties
• Anger and emotional regulation
• Life changes, identity and feeling stuck
Therapy for Young Adults
Your twenties and early adulthood can be a strange time. There can be a lot changing at once. Relationships, work, family, becoming more independent and trying to work out who you are and where you’re going. You might feel like you’re supposed to have things figured out by now, while underneath you’re feeling anxious, stuck or unsure about what comes next.Therapy can give you somewhere to slow things down, talk about what’s going on and begin making sense of what you want for yourself. We don’t have to figure it all out at once. We can start with where you are now.
Therapy for Adults
You don’t need to be going through a crisis to come to therapy. You might be dealing with anxiety, low mood, difficulties in your relationships or family, grief, things from your past, or a period of change in your life. Or you might simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right.Sometimes we find ourselves repeating the same patterns, carrying things we’ve never really spoken about, or reaching a point where we want to understand ourselves a little better.Whatever has brought you here, we can start with that and take things from there.
Therapy for Men
Sometimes as men, we can carry a lot without really having anywhere to put it.You might be dealing with pressure in your relationships, anxiety, anger, confidence, becoming a father, questions around masculinity or simply feeling unsure about where you’re going in life. You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Sometimes it starts with simply having somewhere you can talk honestly about what’s going on, without feeling like you need to have all the answers. We can start there and see where the conversation takes us.
Culture, Identity & Therapy
As a Black male therapist, I understand that who we are and what we’ve experienced can be shaped by our culture, family, identity and the communities we’ve grown up in.Sometimes it can feel important to talk with someone who understands that some things don’t always need a long explanation. There may be parts of your experience around family, identity, masculinity, belonging, cultural expectations, racism or discrimination that you want to explore. And sometimes none of those things will be the reason you’ve come to therapy at all. They’re simply parts of you that there is room for, if and when they matter. My practice is open to people of all backgrounds.
What Working Together Looks LikeStarting therapy can sometimes feel like a big step, especially if you’re not quite sure where to begin. You don’t need to come with everything figured out. We can simply start with what’s going on for you and take things from there. Our sessions are a space for you to talk openly about whatever is on your mind. I’ll listen, ask questions and help you make sense of what you’re experiencing. Sometimes we might look at what’s happening in your life right now, and sometimes we may explore things you’ve experienced in the past and how they might still be affecting you today. There’s no set way that therapy with me has to look. Some sessions might feel quite focused, while others might give you the space to simply talk and see what comes up. We can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you and focus on what feels most important as we go.You don’t have to know where the conversation is going before we start. We can work that out together.

Qualifications, Memberships & ExperienceI’m a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a practitioner member of BAATN.Before moving into private practice, much of my work involved supporting adults, young people and families through different points in their lives. I’ve worked across therapy, early help and prevention services, and those experiences have shaped a lot of how I work today. They’ve also taught me that what’s going on for us rarely exists on its own. Sometimes it connects to our relationships, our families, things we’ve experienced in the past, or simply what’s happening around us now.For me, therapy starts with you feeling comfortable enough to be yourself. You don’t need to come in knowing exactly what to say or where to begin. We can talk about whatever is going on for you, make sense of things together and take it from there.
